Overview:

Small and humble beginnings to this year's season at Albert Park, Melbourne where Mercedes fired off with a successful start with their new driver Andrew Davidson backed by seasoned veteran Schumacher.

Mercedes is not the only team to introduce new drivers this year with the introduction of Tom Grantham to Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes and Troy Porritt to Lotus-Renault. Both drivers new to Formula 1 they started off their season with a very competitive race where unfortunately at lap 26 Lotus-Renault's Porritt spun out into a disconnection where his race continued separately coming 10th with one point.

McLaren have started off with a mixed season with Hamilton coming a solid fifth and their new driver Grantham coming ninth after some minor incidents out on the circuit.

There are two more new drivers to the world of Formula 1, Joe Crosby who has replaced Vettel's position in Red Bull Racing and Joel Centofanti who has taken Alonso's position with Ferrari. Unfortunately neither Crosby or Centofanti were not able to race this evening, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari were forced to use their back up drivers Vettel and Alonso to field their gap.

This was a good starting race to what seems to be a promising season of Formula 1 The next race is at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday 27th November 2011. Will Mercedes continue with their strong start?
